Playful Leadership: The Antidote Nobody Told You About

It started with a rap.

A Monday morning rap about what a Playful Leader looks and sounds like — and the response genuinely floored me. Which told me something important: people are hungry for this conversation.

Playful leadership is not about being funny. It's not about lightening the mood or avoiding the hard stuff. It's about staying curious, flexible, and genuinely present — especially when everything around you is demanding otherwise.

In my work coaching leaders through some of their toughest seasons, the ones who navigate pressure with the most grace all share this quality. Playfulness isn't what they do when things are easy. It's what carries them when things aren't.

The image that changed everything for me?

Total Football.

The Dutch tactical philosophy where every player is fluid — defenders attack, midfielders defend, nobody waits for permission from a fixed role. The team moves as one, with trust, adaptability, and real joy in the game.

That's playful leadership at the team level. Not chaos. Not rigidity. Something far more alive than either.

This two-part series has been one of the most satisfying things I've researched and lived. And the conversations it sparked gave me more than I put in.

If it's resonating — let's talk. Playful Leadership is one I could go on about endlessly. 😎
